I bought this for the full-length rendition of Rhapsody in Blue. I found the brass too tinny sounding, and the rhythm off in a few places. I like the snippet of this song on the "Best of the Milleneum" CD much better. Gershwin At His Best in Hearts! To someone who came along as a teenage boy in the mid-1940's, this CD has the elements of authenticity, even surprise, musical history, highly intense performances, and ways evoking memories of emotional highlights of my Youth. When mediocre orchestra 1st tackled Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" at Smoky Mtn Music Camp we were preparing for Sunday's outdoor Concert. Pianos were played by two friends who've presided Music Dept at Carson-Newman College in East Tennessee. In the Trombone section was a skinny kid with too much hair and too big an ego! When our esteemed conductor began the opening bars the Clarinet Soloist, my close friend Danny Boy slide-up the chromatic scale with fleurish. He later became a NC Doctor! He likely plays clarinet for his own amazement in someone's Dixieland Band!

On this wondrous CD there are historic names like Bernstein, Kostelanez, John Williams and Michael Tilson Thomas, Conductors. Andre Previn, Yo-Yo Ma and Sarah Vaughan as Soloists. I would have a hard time choosing which may be called my favorite! It would depend on the day they are playing in my car... traveling to Columbia Seminary classes or GA Diagnostic Prison for lunch with Chaplain friends! I often sing along with the Rhapsody as I did in 1949 when Oscar Levant soloed with Chattanooga Orch. My very young wife was playing in the first violin section! Still today I am totally wiped out when anyone as intensely romantic as Sarah Vaughan sings "Summertime" or "I Loves You, Porgy!"

Is it not amazingly wondrous that someone could create so much enjoyable music in his short lifetime of 39 years? I never wish to part with this all-time favorite 10-Star Recording!
Retired Chaplain Fred W Hood The best America has to offer!! This is the best collection of his songs i have ever heard. That's probably because it features conductors like John Williams and Micheal Tilson Thomas. My personal favorite is the allegro agitato from the Concerto in F. I have other recordings of this song, but none of them can even come close to matching the excitement of this one.

Bob Seger - Greatest Hits
Bob Seger - Greatest Hits
Bob Seger - Greatest Hits Artist: Bob Seger (Usually ships in 24 hours) Bob Seger has racked up a lot of worthy tracks over the years, but it took until 1994 for a greatest hits package to appear. Voil. The bad news: We're missing an awful lot of songs here. Night Moves is Seger's crit-pick album, and a great place to start if you don't have any Seger at all. Next in the rankings is Stranger in Town. Otherwise, his highs are pretty scattered, which would make any best-of package a worthy investment. But if you want to get comprehensive, "Rock Roll Never Forgets," "Fire Down Below," "Horizontal Bop," "Her Strut," "Betty Lou's Getting Out Tonight," and "Katmandu" aren't on this CD--and you'll have to go to the original albums to secure them. --Gavin McNett Bob Seger and the story of some good tunes. When Bob Seeger is good, he`s very good, but sometimes it swings into "average" but he`s never below average. The reason is that he`s a rock roll craftsman that knows his roots. Track 1 Roll me away is a great opener. You know when Roy Bittan (E street band) just touches the piano tangent in the beginning, you are on the right track. This is a very uplifting song, with the right touch "open space"between the different instruments to make it a classic. Track 2 Night Moves, is more in "so so" country. It`s very traditional but nothing exceptional. Track 3 Turn the page is one of the early Seeger hit`s. Well performed vocal, but the tune is mediocre. Track 4 You`ll accomp`ny me it`s more up there.Easy to get hold of the song. Straightforward roots rock and roll done the "easy way out", but it certainly works. Track 5 Hollywood Nights has an effective rythm all trough. It`s the drumming which does it. Effective down to the smallest beat. Track 6 Still the same. Yeah. That`s all to say folks. It`s likable, but it`s still the same. Track 7. Old time Rock Roll. Woooha. I just said wooha, when i first heard it. This is a jukebox and karaokee favourite, but that`s not all negative. The reason is that it`s so likeable when you hear it you know it`s time for "party party". It`s soooooo rock roll man ! Track 8 We`ve got tonight is a great ballad. Moody and effective. Seeger sing`s with passion and you know he`s meanin` it. Track 9 Against the wind, is classical rock roll with it`s "walkalong tempo" it goes in the right direction from beginning to the end. A classic this one. Track 10 Mainstreet is more in "average" Seger land. It`s certainly ok, but nothing extraordinary. Track 11 The Fire Inside. Bittan is back on the piano, and the uplifting soulcraftmanship is right there it should be. A fiery song that really sparks. Track 12 Like a rock is very straightforward. It has a refrain that it`s repeated. Seeger sing`s great, but that`s not pushing it to much above average. Track 12 C`est la vie it`s a Chuck Berry original that Seger does a very good version of. It`s full of passion and shows the early simple barebone stripdown rock roll roots. Track 13 In youre time is an ok closer, but nothing to shout a big hurray of. As an introduction to Bob Seger this one shows you in the right direction,if you wanna listen to an artist and the story how to put together some good tunes Seger Is Solid....Like A Rock There are some artists you like and are aware of for quite some time, but only the basic stuff and what you may hear in passing on the radio or wherever. Then maybe you pick up a greatest hits album or studio album of theirs somewhere and start to like more of their stuff that you may or may not of known of and start to see more of what this person has to offer. I love little discoveries like this. At the same time, you might also take their past hits you know and give them more appreciation. Bob Seger is one of those kinds of artists for me. I have always known the basics of his catalogue and have liked every single one of them. But I never thought beyond a song I might hear on the radio and so on. I picked up his second GH at the library and loved it. Got it a second time. Loved it even more. Now I have picked up his first greatest hits. As a causual fan, I really can't complain with the packaging or the track list. Most of what people know from Seger is on here(well known Seger songs such as "Shakedown" and "Beautiful Loser" are on GH 2). This disc is basically a refrsher course for the Seger fans who are not quite yet afficiondos. And really, this is a great disc all on it's own for what it is. I am not concerned with what is or isn't on here. A lot of essential great stuff is on GH 2. Maybe there will be a third one somewhere down the line, since these hits things appear to be the only thing Bob does anymore. 10 of the 14 songs here were chart hits for Bob(and not 9 as stated above in another review). I am not sure why this disc would start off with the track "Roll Away"(peaking at #27), when it is hardly a Seger chestnut. But you get a great menu of classic tunes. "Night Moves"(#4) is here, as well as "Mainstreet"(#24), and the hits keep coming. "Still The Same"(#4), "Hollywood Nights"(#12), "We've Got Tonite"(#13), the great "Old Time Rock And Roll"(#28, which is surprising), which is the most requested jukebos song behind Patsy Cline's "Crazy". You'll also get "Against The Wind"(#5), "You'll Accomp'ny Me"(#14), and "Like A Rock"(#12). Two new songs were recorded for the disc. A cover of Chuck Berry's "C'est La Vie", and a new tune, "In Your Time", which must of been a hit on radio since I remember hearing this song. The Seger classic "Turn The Page" is here, but it was never actually a top 40 hit. It doesn't matter. It's a hit to everybody. And there is "The Fire Inside", which didn't even chart, which is too bad because it's a good Seger tune. I always felt that Seger was never given the kind of attention or credit he deserves. He's a masterful rock roller and writer, and has had nice success over the years, but he always seems to get looked over in favor of other blue collar type rockers like Springsteen. I think you can hear Springsteen, and other artists like The Eagles and Creedence/Fogerty in a lot of his music. So, this disc may not be wet the appetite of his most hardcore fans, and putting the 2 GH cd's together might not do the trick either, but this is a great starting point. If you put the two GH's together, you get 30 worthy songs from a wonderful artist. Bob Seger Rules This is a must for all seger fans. This falls behind Live Bullet, but as a non-live cd , it is packed with hits.

The Very Best Of Buck Owens, Vol.1
The Very Best Of Buck Owens, Vol.1
The Very Best Of Buck Owens, Vol.1 Artist: Buck Owens (Usually ships in 24 hours) Today he's heralded as a traditionalist who rejected the Nashville Sound's pop-rock concessions, but the real secret behind Owens's enormous success is that he embraced rock roll more completely than any other country contemporary. The 16 hits here trace Owens and his Buckaroos as they move from more rural-sounding hits such as "Under Your Spell Again" to the rockabilly-inspired rhythms (Owens backed Gene Vincent for awhile) of his driving "freight train" sound, a series of classic singles that always sounded modern, electric, and decidedly urban. Volume 1 barely scratches the surface, but if you've never had your heart skip a beat when Don Rich cranks that driving electric lead to "I've Got a Tiger by the Tail," then you've just got to hear this. --David Cantwell gone---will never be forgotten My late dad had many of these songs on various 45s and LPs
while I was growing up, and I listened to them a lot.

As I write this, it's been about a week since Buck Owens
passed away at the age of 76. Hearing these great country
songs on this collection and Vol. 2, excellently remastered,
I can't help but be a little sentimental...forgive me, but
I wonder what Buck and my dad are talking 'bout up there...

R.I.P., Buck. A golden nugget shinging brightly! Buck Owens was a titan in the music industry, not just in the 1960s, but throughout the decades after that as well. True, the songs on this CD were recorded between 1959 and 1971; but because of Buck's incredible success most true country music aficionados always remembered Buck as being the best of the best. Heck, I don't even go in for country music--but this CD I had to run out and buy after listening to the sound bytes here on Amazon!

My favorite tune on this CD is the first track, "Under Your Spell Again." Like they all say, Buck did infuse his brand of country music with a rock and roll flavor that helped him make his mark. The music here truly is exhilarating, thrilling, and very memorable. I also like the booklet that comes with the CD--there is an essay by Rich Kienzle; and some input from the artist himself! A fine booklet indeed! SMILE

Back up vocals are provided by The Jordanaires.

I would recommend this CD if you don't know about Buck's work but like the sound clips here, as I did, and then decide you want to introduce yourself to Buck's artistry. If you REALLY like this CD; then get the CD of Buck's Greatest Hits, volume two, which is also put out on the Rhino label. There is a volume three as well.

As I said before, I don't even like country music--but this material is so darn good you'll like it just as much as I did! It's a very easy listen with great musical arrangements and the sound quality is excellent. I'll probably love volume two of Buck's hits every bit as much as I love this CD. I highly recommend this CD for people who are just beginning to get acquainted with Buck's work. Fans of country music will enjoy this as well. You rule, Buck!
Definitely Worth Having If you are tired of today's country music scene this is a great example of the Bakersfield Sound of Buck Owens. An album worth every penny.

Al Green - Greatest Hits
Al Green - Greatest Hits
Al Green - Greatest Hits Artist: Al Green (Usually ships in 24 hours) Click Here for more information One of the must-own soul albums, Greatest Hits is fattened with five extra tracks in this reissue. Al Green brought the Memphis Sound into the '70s by slightly softening it, melding smooth funkiness with his miraculous voice and innate sensitivity: his love songs, while perfect for the bedroom, are as conversational as they are blatantly seductive. By adding the likes of "Belle," a 1977 single that's a near-goodbye to the pop life, to the original lineup of "Let's Stay Together," "Look What You Done for Me," "Call Me," and the others, this edition of Greatest Hits also intriguingly fills out the story. --Rickey Wright This album is oozing with sensuality, tenderness, passion and string's of majestic hits. Listening to these Soul classics of Al Green creates a spirit of sexual energy that scores a hit right into the center of the limbic system of your brain: takes away hostility, stress of the day, and other petty worries, and recharges your same brain circuits to fire up thoughts of love, romance, and many other wonderful happenings inappropriate to spell out in this Amazon.com review; prompting heavenly thoughts and feelings you may not have had in a very long time.

Thank GOD Al Green didn't find the aforementioned sooner, otherwise it may have been gospel that Green was remembered for as opposed to these seventies soul gems. Few soul artists come correct like this anymore - this is still a brilliant compilation in which every song carries a hook or melody so naggingly good that you wonder how it's legal. Notice how people react when you play a song as heavenly as 'You Ought To Be With Me', 'Call Me' or 'Livin For You' - they start to wonder where AL Green has been all their lives that is the seductive charm of this record.

Unfortunately 'Greatest Hits' doesn't include some of his more subtle, affecting work like 'How Can You Mend A Broken Heart' or 'I Didn't Know', but the Rev. Al Green can still send a rapturous chill up your spine and make your world that much more joyful by owning this record.
THE Ultimate Rhythm and Blues Album Al Green's Greatest Hits is one of the must-have music discs for anyone who enjoys music, regardless of ones genre preference. Superlatives run dry; this is perfect RB. It is all about the uniqueness of the sound. When you listen to Al sing "I'm Still in Love with You" (or any of these tracks, to be honest), you hear music that has no peer. Defining what makes genius in the arts is often difficult. The work of Al Green in the 70's is clearly genius and close analysis falls woefully short. But without running on, I attribute it to three main features:

1. Al Green in the 70's had the best voice in "soul" music of all time; pure power, range and silk. He has released some popular albums in the last few years, and they are worthy, but his voice is not the same after many years of preaching the Gospel and singing Gospel. In the early and mid-70's, his voice was uniquely and definitively soulful; a tenor that could be called at points falsetto, but it was just Al's incredible, flawless range. Talk about The Voice!
2. Willie Mitchell produced most if not all of the tracks; there is so much going on with this music and Mitchell was the genius blending the Voice, instrumentation and arrangement yielding the wonderful final work of art.
3. I disagree with the reviewer claiming Al's voice was the only thing going on. The strings that accompany the vocals make a statement that is hard to describe; a visceral, haunting yet joyful flow, without which the songs wouldn't be the same.

As a whole this is music that puts a time stamp on any occasion for which it is played. I have strong memories from college when I first heard these tunes when they were new music; it was amazing! Many years later I introduced my wife to the the original Al Green's Greatest Hits (without the bonus tracks) and those songs represent our early married life. I've played the 15 track version for my young-teens and they, too like the music, even though they love to say they don't like most of "my" music. My son (who thinks Green Day is the Beatles) likes this album and never complains when I play it. Wonderful memories abound with every track.

The point is, like all great music, Al Green's Greatest Hits is a timeless classic. The disk is best when enjoyed being played straight through. 200 years from now, this will still be the definition of RB. It's as good as it gets!

I agree with the reviewer that all of Green's albums from which these tunes are drawn are must-own for any Baby Boomer and younger folks who dig RB. But for the everyday music aficionado who likes an eclectic mix, this CD will amaze and astound the new listener. In a day where new music shows precious little originality, much less genius, Al Green's Greatest Hits remains, IMHO, the best "greatest hits" album of any genre from any time in popular music history. PERIOD. Al Green-Greatest Hits Oh Al, Stop! I can't get a thing done I don't care! You've got me singin dancin all over the house today. Thanks for the magic!

Malone Alone
Malone Alone
Malone Alone Artist: Bob Malone (Usually ships in 24 hours) Click Here for more information

Earth Wind Fire: Greatest Hits
Earth Wind Fire: Greatest Hits
Earth Wind Fire: Greatest Hits Artist: Wind Fire Earth (Usually ships in 24 hours) Click Here for more information It's the most complete single-disc collection of EWF chart rockers, and Greatest Hits' splendid remastering makes one of the major exponents of '70s funk positivity sound sparkling. From the driving "Shining Star" to the syncopated mastery of "September" and "Boogie Wonderland" to the slow-jam heaven of "After the Love Is Gone," this is a reminder of what made the group so special. --Rickey Wright okay, that's all This cd has about 3 songs that are real kickers-really good. The rest is not the best of EF, like I would anticipate. I would not recommend this cd Nostalgic 70's Great musicians and great music. Takes me back to good times. I love this group; the words are easy to understand and they are CLEAN! Simply the Best EWF Compilation that's out there! This is the best one-disc compilation of EWF that is out there and the remastered sound means they've never sounded better. All the tracks are worthy selections and 17 songs means you get great value for your money. If you are new to EWF and want to get a good representation of the band without having to get all the albums, then this one is the one for you; tracks that stand the test of time. Highly recommended!

Greatest Hits
Greatest Hits
Greatest Hits Artist: Ricky Nelson (Usually ships in 24 hours) Click Here for more information DVD is a feast for the eyes ears of Ricky Nelson fans! This dvd was the answer to one of most ardent desires--Rick Nelson's songs from the Qzzie Harriet Show ALL IN ONE PLACE!
The comments from Tracey, Gunner, Matthew Sam were heartwarming, honest indicated their love for their Dad, in good times bad.
The songs sounded as pure melodic rock-a-billy as they did when we bought them as 45's, back in the day!
The quality of the photography (or restoration of old films) was
excellent.
The entire DVD was as I told my husband "an abundance of riches". It brought back so many wonderful happy memories that the songs were almost coming too fast furiously. I had to stop the DVD just go back replay a lot of the songs so I
truly enjoyed the memories Rick's wonderful voice.
I loved his voice I loved his music from that first song sung on TV back in 1957. I hate to admit this but I had an 8x10" photo of him framed on my dresser all through high school. I
shared my room with my 2 sisters so they were forced to look at
Rick Nelson every day too!!
Anyone who loved Rick or Ricky Nelson's music will find this DVD
a feast for their eyes ears.
I commend the Nelson kids for keeping their Dad's name music out there, so others can enjoy his music as much as we did!
I was stunned the night of 12-31-85 when I heard on TV about his
plane crash. We lost a very special artist who added a lot to the growth of rock'roll rockabilly music, as well as being a very nice person! Ricky Nelson is on Top Again It is really great to see all of the original top tunes available on one CD. It shows why Ricky Nelson was the very first Teenage Idol. The song "Garden Party" is also very touching because it talks about the real life experience Ricky had of being booed off the stage because he no longer was a teenager or an idol. However, he wrote the song and it cracked the top 10. Way to go Ricky! rickynelson i got this for my hubby who is a #1 fan of the nelsons, he says excellent!!!!!!!!
